====== Orc ====== [[culture:start|Return to Cultures]] - [[culture:species|Return to Species]] \\ Orcs are a monstrous race of people almost as old as the rocks. Known for their ferocious strength and hardened souls. Orcs calm enough to interact with common society are rather rare in //Felwind//. To this day most Orcs are only known for their aggression towards other species. You will find many bounties calling for the heads of an Orc tribe that has raided towns, caravans or other innocent bystanders. They are often not taken as prisoners'. \\ But like any species, not every Orc is problematic. A number of full-blood & half-breeds, aptly named //Half-Orcs// can be expected among the people in small numbers. There is a cultural weariness of any Orc due to racial stereotyping but that mindset has somewhat shaken in parts of //Felwind// thanks to the efforts of a few //Half-Orc// Folk hero's. Full Blooded Orcs hold a physical towering broad presence where ever they go. Able to scare the weak willed with a simple glance. {{ :culture:orc_1.jpg?:500 |}} \\ ^ Title ^ Detail ^ ^ Species Class:| //humanoid, fey, fiend, dragon etc// | ^ Population:| //Common, Rare, Exotic, Mythical etc// | ^ Homeland/Origin:| //Realm, Nation Etc// | ^ Average Hight:| //Cm , Feet// | ^ Lifespan:| //Years // | ^ Physical Traits:| //Tails, Wings, Fur, Pointy ears, Scales etc// | ^ Source:| //Content Book & Page Number// | **Recognized Orc Encampments** \\ There are several locations recognized by the leaders of various nations as safe living spaces for Orcs. There are strict guidelines and rules that Orc's must follow to be able to enter and live in these enchantments. Such stringent conditions are seen to some as no better as prison but others who have adjust to life have managed to flourish and some of these towns have become key merchant trade customers with other towns and cities. **Orcs don't Hold Grudges** \\ There is a saying among people "Be Thankful Orc's don't hold grudges". Used as slang to describe someone or something that is far more powerful than another that has been bested in some way that they wouldn't normally have. \\ Though it also holds truth. Orcs by nature and culture are not a vengeful people. As long as there was know disrespect or trickery involved an Orc won't seek revenge when bested. It also means they are very unlikely to use underhanded tactics themselves so everything an Orc does is all at face value. **Once an Orc always an Orc** \\ Orcs still by en-large are a problematic species of monster. Orcs that have become integrated into society are a small handful compared to the amount who still roam the lands causing issues. \\ Though the ways of the Orc have barely changed for thousands of years, understanding their ways have. Deaths from Orc attacks and Raids have gone down in recent years due to people understanding their culture better. \\ to fight is often a fight to the death for an Orc so if you are not prepared to die simply handing over your goods is a good way of keeping your life though not guaranteed. \\ It is better to try and form a friendship with nearby Orc tribes. Its is known that they will raid small towns looking for resources if desperate or provoked. Orcs are rather friendly when met on their terms and when their culture is followed and will not attack friends of the tribe, even defending it if the relationship is strong enough. \\ If friendship is not an option then annihilation is the only other way as nothing more than utter defeat will stop an Orc tribe's counter attack. **Easy Soldiers** \\ Orcs are often used by un-savoury types as cheep mercenaries. Powerful beings can easily put tribes of orcs under their control with displays of strength, dominating or killing a tribe's chief or other underhanded tricks. \\ There are rumours of generational tribes of Orcs that have only ever known war and have become almost a mindless army controlled by a dark master. === Playing an Orc in Felwind === Playing an Orc in Felwind the player is sure to find their fair share of racial stereotyping from most parts of the map, Some Npc's may be cautions of your approach or give you side eye as you walk past. stares when walking into a tavern. Tolerance for any shenanigans may be lower than normal for an Orc player. Though no NPC should attack you outright without valid reason too.\\ //Promise// and //Meshela// you may find an easier time, Promise being a nation made of all manor of monsterours and mundane races while Meshela values personal strength over most else so an Orc may feel right at home. Orcs in Felwind that are not a problem are often adventurers, travers, mercenaries, body-guards, labours or farmers. their presence is intimidating and some NPC's may be intimidated without needing a check to be made. Orcs can come from anywhere in //Felwind// your homeland is almost anywhere on the map. As an Orc player its recommended NOT to base your backstory around the racism subjected to Orcs as this causes issues with the Orc in question now working in and with the people they may relate to those who caused the pain earlier in life. However if you want to run with this type of origin talk with your DM and other players to see if everyone is on board, Working with the DM to make this part of your origin not clash with other parts of the story. \\ You can also look for something that may have happened to anyone regardless of species. or something more specific to Orc culture such as a chief that was bested in combat and chose exile over death. A young orc who has been chosen by the Sharman to leave the tribe and start an adventure of thier own only returning when something specific happens. Playing a Half-Orc you will find similar situations from the public although not as intense and in less situations. what's more interesting is your origins, as a Half-orc your story begins with your parents, what brought them together? are they still around? does your character know their parents? \\ Playing a Half-orc you are a embodiment of cultural change. where Orcs are more accepted by other people and Orcs themselves become more adaptive of new ways of doing things. is this something you want to play part of your character or do you want nothing to do with those kind of politics? Playing an Half orc they follow similar occupations to a full blooded orc but may have also followed a magical calling picked up by a curious master or self taught through library books. or even your half-blood status means you may have natural sorcerous magic flowing through you. =====Orc Sub Species===== ===== Full Blood ===== {{ :wiki:media:template.png?100 |}} Text ===== Half Blood ===== {{ :culture:half_orc_1.jpg?250 |}} Also known as Half-Orc
