 After spending either a short or long rest with this candle with someone in mind the candle binds itself to their life, you can spend another rest to change the person. The more you know the particular person or creature the more likely the binding will succeed. When the candle is lit it shows if the connected person or creature is alive by the strength of the flame.
 For example a strong sturdy flame indicates that they are alive and well while a weak flickering flame indicates they maybe be hurt, sick or close to death, if the candle does not light either the binding didn't work or they are no longer living.
