A Slightly evil book, Evil doers rejoice when they find this book, it being the source of so many foul writings, but when they read the book they find most of its critical information is useless, It only providing a few strong effects but no way to further their foul legacies. A fake of its true icon most would cast it aside in anger for the minions or henchman to use.

Or you might become wizened and hideous, lose all facial features, gain a forked tongue, or some other feature the DM chooses. The mark of darkness grants you advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks made to interact with evil creatures and Charisma (Intimidation) checks made to interact with non-evil creatures.

Dim Lore
You can reference the Book of Mild Darkness whenever you make an Intelligence check to recall information about some aspect of evil, such as lore about demons. When you do so, double your proficiency bonus on that check.

Rude Speech
While you carry the Book of Mild Darkness, you can use an action to recite words from its pages in a foul language known as profanity. Each time you do so, you take 1d12 psychic damage, and each non-evil creature within 15 feet of you takes 3d6 psychic damage.

A powerful world altering item, The true Book of Vile Darkness is a force to be reckoned with, a legend told through the ages. So naturally copies and fakes of this item will come to surface. this being one such item.
Comically named 'Mild' this book holds but a mimicked fraction of the true books power. although much of its contents are similar to the true book the highly coveted evil magic is full of spelling mistakes and gramma errors.
This book lacks several powers the true book would grant as well as most of its strongest and important Dark knowledge. the above mentioned evil magic is useless as well as any info about evil planes or lichdom or godhood. It also lacks the ability to become any catalyst for an evil ritual. some who think this is the True book and use it to attain God-hod or open a portal to the abyss may find crumble to dust just as the climax was happening.
