Rise of Narkul

Home | Chapter 2: Alemor Island

Despite it still being early morning, the midsummer heat filled the streets of Whitkin, the capital of Greyhawk. A large port town, a hub for trade and travel in the region, the large forestries and fisheries supporting most of the population. This Wednesday morning was like any other for Bellan, a fresh set of adventurers looking for coin and sights to see, an odd collective this time around but no matter, as long as they do the job.

A thud lets out behind Bellan. Turning around to face the source of noise, seeing the large lizardfolk he hired lifting the heavy barrels of fish by himself onto a nearby cart, shouting out “Careful Bemin, I will take any damages out of your pay.”

The green and yellow humanoid lizard, towering over the halfling Bellan and everyone else around calls back, “Do not worry, I take care like a rock is to the worm.” as he hauls up another barrel into the cart.

“Nothing you’ve said has made sense” Bellan muttered under his breath, turning to Mackenzie, a young man with a large afro and fine attire. “Are you sure this guy can do the job?” leaning over to look at Singsong, a Secretary Kenku, who has stayed close to Mack’s side.

“Do not worry,” Singsong replies, mimicking Bemin’s voice. “Can do the job” and Bellan’s voices with great precision.

“Yes, like my…” Mackenzie began speaking before being cut off as Professor Stem interrupted, rarely seen outside the university. Normally he would be hunted and slain on sight, but his reputation and status kept him safe. Stem dressed in a sea green robe that thankfully concealed most of his tentacles that hold him up, what confused Bellan the most wasn’t the tentacles but how Stem spoke without a mouth, for Stem’s head just seemed to be a singular large eye, with an excessively tall top hat the same green as his robe.

“I thought you land creatures would be good at moving stuff on land.” Stems voice matched the tone of high nobility, that Bellan had heard many times before while arranging transport.

“Are you helping transport or not?” Bellan was growing increasingly worried about the group he hired by the second. “Look, just take the cart to Meford and make sure Ellegit receives the cart and goods, she’ll make sure you’re paid.”

After longer than Bellan expected, the group was finally on their way, despite standing in a busy and loud street he felt at peace as the sound of the group left.

Mackenzie sat at the front of the wagon, “Hey, what’s that up ahead?”

On the horizon of the road, a wagon and three figures blocked the way forward. Bemin approached the front with Mackenzie
