Lycanthrope
Return to Cultures - Return to Species
Shifters and Lycanthropes are a very old species of people. Though in some corners of Felwind its only seen as a disease that needs curing or expunging. While the classification of 'Disease' is technically correct, its far more complicated.
Lycanthropy is not the only form of transformative disease found in Felwind. There are constant debates about its classification either its a curse, a disease or some sort of evolution. There has been yet any ground made across classification.
Its understood that the Lycanthropy curse/disease is normally passed by an infected bite or claw from a fully-fledged Were-beast. Normally the progenitor Beast-Type will be the transformation that's passed on.
However, Blood-Huters have a specialty class revolving around this Curse/Disease. Where Hunters willingly take the curse with a special sort of blood transfusion with infected Were-beast blood. Those that survive become a more advanced Were-beast capable of more control and special abilities. Though one note is that these hunter cannot pass on the curse/disease with a bite, They can pass it on to children they may have.
Shifters are most easily understood as lesser Lycanthropes. They have a far less dramatic transformation and far less powerful abilities. Shifters cannot pass on their traits by bite and rarely pass them on to children they may have.
Shifters come about when a Lycanthrope's lineage is weaker than normal, Either by one who has not accepted their Were-beast nature. Or when the mother is not a Lycanthrope. Its recorded that the child has a much higher chance of receiving the Lycanthrope curse when its the mother who has it.

Infection vs Bound
Lycanthropy is an infection much like Vampirism that is spready from a progenitor creature carrying the disease.
But those born to parents with the Lycanthrope disease are called bound, as the disease becomes part of the child's soul and so is no longer an invaded but one and a part of the child.
Though one who is infected by a Were-Beast is able to be 'Cured' through some intense methods. Children born to parents with the lycanthrope curse are forever 'Bound'. As the curse becomes part of the child's very soul. Its then a matter if they accept it or reject it where dangerous things can happen.
