Souls risen from death that keep their personality and sense of self, they may be free souls or bound to serve a master but they are far above your typical moaning zombie or rattling skeleton.

Unlike the necromantic rituals that produce most undead, A Revenant rises due to more personal reasons. Burning vengeance refusing to let the soul pass on, Unfinished business meaning the soul is not at peace, or perhaps so spiteful of their death they refuse to give into it just yet.
Revenant's are creatures sustained on pure will, they have no need of food or water or air, and, unlike most other low tier undead, they retain all their memories and personality from life.

Revenants such as these are rare in Felwind and are often hard to distinguish from your typical zombie or other mundane undead. So they are often slain on sight. Even if a Revenant were to make peace with a local town or village word of their existence spreads fast and Gods of the Grave Domain send their Clerics and Psychopomps to hunt down these Revenants whenever they make themselves known.
Because of this Revenants will normally commit to a life of solitude or wandering. craving the company of others but also in fear of it. Some lucky Revenants may find solace withing a few far off communities or keep their true nature a secret with cleaver disguises and facades. Some Revenants find safety becoming a valuable servant for powerful figures or underworld criminal organizations.

One thing is for sure, A Revenant is among the living for a reason, and will strive to fulfil that to the best of their ability before they die again.

Souls who's actions in life did not lead them to Celestia or the Hells so ended up in Equilibrius, Purgatory for the souls of the mundane. they then after any number of years in the realm of Grey if the souls have shown strong sense of will to better themselves where most others simply fall into the endless grey cycle of the realm are chosen by the New gods who oversee this purgatory.
Knighting them in a way to be reborn as the undead species known as a Psychopomp.

They are often purgatory's enforces. Soldiers to protect the cycle of death, those in Un-death are the Psychopomp's targets, their purpose aligns closely to Clerics of the Grave Domain.
Psychopomps come in a wide variety of forms, Before chosen by the Gods of the Grave Domain they may just be blank featureless spectres or souls or other humanoid bodies of grey. Once chosen however Psycopomps are granted a new form they are able to guide using their own will, this makes Psychopomps very varied in appearance but often share similar traits with what you would expect of an undead creature.
once the form is made it cannot be changed.

All this comes at a cost however. A Psychopomp does not get a choice in becoming one in the first place, and if a Psychopomp perishes outside Equilibris then their soul is destroyed, having no Afterlife to go to.

a Vampire or Vampirism is not strictly a species on its own but rather a viral condition as most other species are able to be infected with Vampirism and so become Vampires of their species.
But it is not a developing condition and rather a transformative one when hosts of the condition all share similar traits. Such a unique situation deems there be some level of categorisation for Vampires and their ilk.

(3rd Party)

When death takes a mortal and destroys the flesh. If the soul has a strong enough will or is perhaps cursed or bound in some way a Spectre is created. Most such creatures fall into some sort of hysteria or madness over their death, if not right away the never ending years of eternal undeath may. Or they may be hunted by representatives of the Grave Domain coming to cleanse their personified upset in the cycle
Though not all Spectres may be so mindless.
Some are able to hold their form and mind together to become something more tangible and coherent, Others may have been forced into transformation via dark rituals, Bargains may have been struck with higher powers. What ever the case there are rare few Spectres in Felwind that could be considered companion yet they still fear the hunt of a silver blade.
