Merric Mystan

Merric was born into a family of traveling merchant halflings, trading goods between towns and cities freely. He spent most of his childhood on the road and was taught to fear the outlawed races, although his parents were willing to trade goods with passing refugees if sales did not reach expectation. However during a routine delivery between Naporia and Rustille, his family was attacked by cultists and he was separated from his family.

Taken as a prisoner, Merric was experimented on for weeks before being used as a sacrifice for a dark ritual tied to the Shadowfell. The ritual backfired as dark, necrotic energy exploding from Merric's body, killing the surrounding cultists and etching the essence of the Shadowfell into Merric's body. A passing group of Dragonborn refugees that Merric's parents had sold vital food and medicine to saw the explosion and discovered an unconscious Merric upon investigation, although no signs of his family was ever discovered.

Adopting him in as one of their own, Merric became part of the group, abandoning his family name and took on the family name of Mystan. Merric became the face of the group when they had to interact with outsiders and used his magic to either avoid problems, through illusion or charming, or solve them with fire and lightning. After an aggressive attack from a Royal Conclomerate Patrol, Merric decided to join the Rebellion to secure a better future for his family, while the Dragonborn group chose to hide in the Greyhawk Forest in hopes of protection against future attacks.
