The City of Cinders

Campaign 5

This city, you have probably seen it before, caught in an everlasting battle between law and crime.

If you have been to Hell you might recognise the architecture, although Hades is much more civilised then the demons.
although the city is high above the clouds life tends to carry on as normal, gardens, running water, and some forms of primitive electricity. shops, entertainment, parades and even sunny shores.
The city has constant sessions of rain and storms and the government has built cleaver ways of capturing the water for the citizens.

Humans are the main race you will find in the city but its not uncommon to see all manor of other races other then Draconian and Elfs, its very rare to see any of those around the city.
Goblins make up a majority of the other citizens

Time and Technology

This dimension of Hades is a firm one, magic is all but sucked dry from the land, only few spells remain that can actively be used by the population but nothing useful. only weak elemental and force magics really remain.
technology has advanced in a non traditional and experimental way. you will see cars, guns, lights, fans even radios here But the City of Cinders is suspended high above the clouds by technology birthed from the discovery of a powerful mineral known as Tellarium and much more advanced.
Airships are the main source of transportation out of the cities bounds and are normally only done for the whaling ships.
Swords are a thing of the past, Firearms are the weapon of choice with fully automatic weapons just being introduced into the city.

The few magics that can be learned are done so by special tonics sold by the Saulsbry brothers. kind enough fellows but really only in it for the coin.

Fire arms are a common sight, you never know when you might need it in this city.

Currency is paid for in gold and silver, coins, and bars of the stuff is the regulated kind, those looking for more off the books deals trade in precious stones.

How do you fit in?

There has been a heist on one of the major banks in the city, not a Uncommon thing to happen but this is the first time such a large bank has been hit and with such organisation by the thieves

You were involved somehow.

A civilian caught in the middle, simply trying to make a deposit or withdrawl.
an employee for the bank, directly affected.
one of the security guards, powerless to stop such an organised group of criminals
a passerby, not inside the bank but you saw all the events unfold
a lackey, last minute hired as extra muscle, you were not told a single thing other then there was money to be made.

However you were involved you were taken into Custody and now at the station awaiting interrogation from the police.

The Interrogation
The cops are going to ask you many questions, depending on how you answer will determine your starting equipment and bonus permanent stats to be applied, think out your backstory.

These have been put on hold and will not be used in the city of Cinders campaign
With the lack of magic a ton of classes are made obsolete. a few presets have been developed. But Feel free to use any of the basic classes from normal DND (Still Under Construction)

Fighter with Gunslinger Mercenary

General Mage with gunslinger Arcana Shot

Rogue with gunslinger Marksmen

Alchemist with gunslinger Engineer

Plate armour is pretty much phased out in these times, so instead your AC will be increased by special exlixers that can be bought or found through our your story, armour proficency will instead be replaced with a constitution save system
the higher AC exlixer you wish to consume the stronger it is and the more difficult the CON DC will be.
fail the DC and you will waste the drink and the money you spent on it.

there are no close combat weapons other then makeshift ones such as bats, lead pipe etc. Fire arms rule the roost. However that does not stop you from using your fists or perhaps finding a decent Knife.

There are no shields. shield proficients will be vain and ignored.

there is minimal magic spells but still plenty of magical items to find.

This is a mystery and crime based setting, high charisma, investigation, perception, insight etc is recommended but not required.
there will be a high focus on role play and talking rather then combat, please note this.

Firearm Properties Firearms are a new and volatile technology, and as such bring their own unique set of weapon properties. Some properties are followed by a number, and this number signifies an element of that property (outlined below). These properties replace the optional ones presented in the Dungeon Master’s Guide. Firearms are ranged weapons.

Reload. The weapon can be fired a number of times equal to its Reload score before you must spend 1 attack or 1 action to reload. You must have one free hand to reload a firearm.

Explosive. Upon a hit, everything within 5 ft of the target must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Dexterity modifier) or suffer 1d8 fire damage. If the weapon misses, the ammunition fails to detonate, or bounces away harmlessly before doing so.

Ammunition All firearms require ammunition to make an attack, and due to their rare nature, ammunition may be near impossible to find or purchase. However, if materials are gathered, you can craft ammunition yourself using your Tinker’s Tools at half the cost. Each firearm uses its own unique ammunition and is generally sold or crafted in batches listed below next to the price.
