Hag

Return to Cultures - Return to Species

Hags, Crones, Witches what ever you may call them they are a force of wickedness and misfortune. Although it seems rather barbaric to name a creature something so simple, Where its used as an insult in modern Felwind make no mistake the threat these creatures pose.
One of the oldest beings in the history of Felwind and the other planes, Hags are very dangerous ladies. Many in Felwind know them from Folklore stories and the occasional warnings from the kingdom but actual encounters with a Hag are very rare.

Hags prey on the feelings of greed, loss and desire. With tier twisted magic they are able to weave the world around them to tier whim far more effectively than any wizard. However the type of magic they wield is a corruptive force and can be responsible for mortals becoming Hags and so is banned through most of Felwind.
When mortals are desperate despite all the warnings they come to a Hag, Because in truth a Hag is able to do almost anything they desire and so grant almost any crazy wish to a mortal, But always trough a 'Deal' and 'Payment'. These deals are always twists of logic and words and trying to be cleaver about your deal will often just anger the Hag. The Hag is the one to set the terms of a deal, You may wish to make alterations but that all depends on how the Hag is feeling and how much alteration you want.

Hags are very witty creatures and some enjoy the witt of others. You may find those mortals who show confidence around a Hag earn quick interest and respect, But his isn't the case for all Hags so its best to just avoid them entirely.

What Makes a Hag?

In Felwind, Hags are born/created in a few different ways.

Birthed from Baba
Most of the oldest hags are daughters of the original Hag Baba Yaga Baba would often employe a few different deals in exchange for the live bodies or souls of mortals. Able to devour these offerings and Re-birth them as Child Hags through a typical maternity cycle.

Corrupted Fey
When Fey Creatures are born into the Feywild, Be they Seelie or Un-seelie there is a rare chance for tat Fey to become corrupted with the hag essence. its often a complete random chance and very rare also but once it starts there is little to do.

Children of other Hags
Any Adult Hag is able to consume the live body and soul of a mortal and re-birth them as a Hag Child. this often happens when the Hag's have been around for a long time and start to get sentimental for things. Family being one of them.
Re-Birth is not the only way a Hag may obtain a child. The payment for a deal can be for a born child for the Hag to raise as her own, And through her influence the Child will become a Hag also.

Corrupted Mortals
Hags can also develop when a mortal begins to practice the Hag's vile magic. The act of studying and using tis type of taboo arcane can infest the body and soul of those who wield it eventually turning their visage to mirror the magic they practice.
Its worth noting that all Hag's are female so if a male mortal were to go down tis path they would turn female or into something far from human.
