The Caldera

Inspiration: The Caldera was originally formed from the simple statement, “What if modern/future technology was found in the medieval ages?”

Major lore: The World is on an endless cycle of destruction by a race known as the 'Ancients'. Each cycle or Epoch is defined by the prominent race of that time. Currently set in the 42nd Epoch, the age of humans. The majority of characters and stories are focused around the discovery and awakening of the Caldera, a facility beneath the caldera of a dead volcano on the border of two nations in a cold war, the facility housing seemingly futuristic technology and a race of creatures known as the Kuahn in a suspended animation.

The exploration and awakening of the facility triggers events that cannot be undone, sparking war between the Kingdom of Hastil and Empire of Thonia, their leadership ignorant to a larger eldritch threat stirring from it's slumber.

Major Rules:

  • Magic is split into two categories,
    • Tenere that maintains the conservation of energy and has little side effect to the caster. It is sub divided into Elemental, Transmutation, and Illusion.
    • Frangere breaks the conservation of energy and without methods of mitigation causes strain and damage to the caster. It is sub divided into Evocation, Abjuration, and Conjuration.

Known Epochs

  • 1st Epoch: Ancients - The first conquerors Ganynum and demise of many following Epochs
  • 10th Epoch: Dragon - After their crushing defeat against the Ancients, these ageless beings now live solitary lives wishing not to re-awaken their enemy
  • 39th Epoch: Oradun - A race created for war by another in hopes they'd defeat the ancient threat, they feature horns, hardened hide, and enhanced muscles
  • 41st Epoch: Kuahn - Highly intelligent and naturally attuned to magic, they seem to able to wield both Tenere and Frangere magic with little issue
  • 42nd Epoch: Human - Need I say more? Humans are gifted and resilient beings, never backing down even when there is no hope
