Description
The Promised Archpeligo is full of many strange and fantastical stories, The lands here are rich in mystery and opportunity. One such story told by many, say there is an ancient library built as a Citadel. Holding untold quantities of knowledge, secrets and dreams. Hidden deep within unnatural fog on the fatherst western edge of the Archpeligo's borders within the cluster of western islands. Where the trees grow thick, and Goblins run rampant. Looking over the chilling north sea.
In the Promised Archpeligo on one of its most wester islands off the coast of its most western border you may find a grand stronghold that spans the entirety of the small island its been built upon. Shrouded in swirling magical fog that only ever lets up at the commanded of the Citadel's master. This stronghold is known as Fate's Weave
The Citadel is ancient. Standing since the end of the Age of Conquest. It has endured against the crashing waves and brutal winds for thousands of years and defied the degradation of time. The Citadel spans to the ends of the island, the sheer cliffs rise up almost flush with the high walls that surround Fate's Weave along all sides. With towers taller still that act as a watch as well as research with the stars. The only entrance and only shore being on the eastern side of the island where magic has carved a shore and path for those worthy to approach the Citadel's gates.
The gates themselves, gigantic double wooden doors standing 30ft high at the peak of the arch and just as wide. Decorated in a brilliant serpent design that mirrors on each door, Dedicated to the master of Fate's Weave.
Some more fanatical rumours say its the physical representation of the Domain of Fate as its master is one of the Gods of the Pantheon.
Those who earn entry inside the citadel's walls will find it houses a cloistered community of scholars, researchers, Students, Teachers and other like minded creatures from all ends of the Cosmology. Some visitors, others residents and more still workers. Scribe Gnomes bound to eternal service to Fate's Weave and its master.
With such a community comes the necessities, you will find a tavern, inn, general store, smith and tailor as well as few other community stores inside the walls. You will find no better place to quench your thirst for research and knowledge than at Fate's Weave.
Looking around you will easily notice towards the back of the walls the land rises higher. a large set of stairs and ramps lead up to what seems to be an inner castle of sorts. Surrounded by its own set of walls. That is the Library and the domain of the master of this citadel. Entry into the walls is one thing, but to be allowed within the Library is another entirely.
The Library, Simply known as Fate's Weave Library houses the largest collection of written lore in all of Felwind and likely all of the Cosmolagy. Including copies and originals of many great texts of Power such as the Codices, Although the validity of their originality is unconfirmed. Fate's Weave has the unique ability to be able to copy many forms of written work within the various realms. Letters, books, Dairies, Scrolls, Recipes, Songs, It all may find a copy being created and stored away by the workers within the library no matter its usefulness. Yet you may have caught on the vagueness of these statements. It is true that what is and isn't copied by the Library is rather random and not entirely reliable. Many Texts still need to be found, bought, copied and/or stored the old fashion way.
A Section of the Library is dedicated to a very special type of Book, Known as “Fate Stories”, Books created when a new soul is created and birthed into the realms. The Books write themselves as a story book, retelling the specific soul's life as it happens. Some 'Fate Stories' are completed as soon as the soul is concived, Others only write as the soul acts in real time. Others are partially complete with certain events in their life destine to happen while the bits in-between remain to be written.
Expectedly these books are very special and can have damming effects, Those reading their own 'Story' will undoubtly doom themselves while reading the tale of someone close to them may create unforeseen ripples in the rivers of fate. Most notable the books can be altered by those reading them, with special ink and quill fates may be re-written, an event that no mortal or God should ever commit.
Because of all this, the section of the Library is put under even more protection than the rest of the Library.
“No Blood, Flesh, Stone or Soul Shall pass through, To Tease Fate is to Define your Undoing.”
The Library itself acts also as a home for the Master of Fate's Weave.
Those lucky enough to be granted entrance are greeted with a very spacious and cozy reception. Even here bookshelves line every wall but the more savy will know that the deeper you go into the library the morel likely you are to find interesting information.
Like many of the workers, the Reception desk has three Scribe Gnomes stationed here to take questions, offer information and direction as well as check in and out books being borrowed or returned.
One curious detail visitors may notice is the lack of stairs within the library, everything being smooth ramps. The Master of Fate's Weave is a gigantic serpent creature so it makes sense that her Library and home would be made to accommodate a slithering body. Along with this the corridors and door-ways are made to fit a much larger creature than a regular human.
Beyond the reception lies the library itself. Countless shelves stacked with books, parchment and other texts, from floor to ceiling and it seems to stretch off into the darkness. The Library seems much bigger on the inside than the outside.
There is a very well lit and lavishly furnished 2nd floor dedicated to private rooms and public areas for visitors to sit and read/ recherch in peace.
The ground floor is spacrly lit with magical lanterns that give off an eerier washed blue light. Much of the book shelves are soaked in a dull darkness and the deeper you go the worse it gets. The path of magical lantern light being your only guide. The lanterns are able to be removed from the walls and taken into the shelves but visitors will find they are unable to create their own flammable light. any source of flame magical or natural fails to alight. A safety to prevent damage to the texts.
You may find the odd Scribe Gnome wandering around these Shelved halls, conducting work, storing books or removing them for repair. Though the deeper you got the more the Dark and quite begin to mess with your mind. Its not uncommon to find others deep in the dark parts of the library who may have gotten lost or even lost their sanity to the darkness. even the occasional corpse is not entirety uncommon of those who starved to death unable to find a way out.
All the shelved halls are very wide and spacious, Meany for a creature much larger than a medium human to be able to travel down and through them with ease.
The whole library is ornate and decorated with the images of various serpents and many slither around the lower floors moving, editing and adding books to the library. most of these snakes are unfortunate victims who have entered the library without formal permission and now currsed to live forever in servituite to the Library and its master.
The Scribe Gnomes of Fate's Weave
Despite the power of this place, The Texts that end up here are often created in rather odd places within the Libraries walls. The Master has no time nor patience to sort through thousands of new texts that appear every week and so she created a particular subspecies of Gnome known as Scribe Gnomes many thousands of years ago soon after the creation of Fate's Weave.
These gnomes are bound to eternal servitude within the library and the citadel of Fate's Weave. However they are not slaves per-sey as they still receive payment, good food and shelter as well as annual leave. But they are not free to leave their service and forbidden to act against Fate's Weave Or its master. A Morally Grey situation.
The Gnomes of Fate's Weave are generally not to fussed about their situation. It has been their culture since their creation and they were only created for this service. Yet every few decades you may get one or two Scribe Gnomes wishing for life outside the service to Fate's Weave.
The Gnomes work in the Library as sorters, Guards, Care-Takers and Guides for the Library as well as repair or replacement of the various texts in the Library. Though the Citadel is almost immune to the passage of time, the books and Parchment the library holds are not and so need thorough dedicated inspection and maintenance. Not all Texts are treated as such. Texts are often valued for their lore, power and relevancy before being accepted or rejected for repair. Many love letters or personal messages, wanted posters and other such texts are often left to wither away.
Goddess Serpent of Fate, Elisia
Its master Elisia Kindred is a Grand Naga with power over dreams. she protects her library from would be pillagers and other threats alike, only ever appearing to people who have peaked her interest.
she is also know to leave her library regularly to stretch her tail on adventures.
Map
Most sightings of the Library have been in the misty woods of the Promised Arcapeligo But sightings are mere rumors' as those that do find the entrance tend to never return.

Note: as of 17th May 2023 I was made awear of the Scribes from MCDM Volume 20 being almost exactly the same as Elisia's Fate's Weave, I would like to confirm I had no knowledge of MCDM's content prior to creating Elisa and her library, I can confirm this with old revision dates being before the release of MCDM's Volume 20.
