Mori, a Oni consumed by his fascination with the sea, spends his days training on the beach and unwinding in the waves each afternoon. Abandoned by his fearful mother, he was raised by the fishermen of a quaint coastal village. During the evenings, he would join sailors and fishermen in the local taverns, reveling in their sea shanties and tales of the ocean. His favorite story revolved around a mermaid cove located several nights' journey from the island.

One fateful night, after a particularly gruesome narrative about how sailors hunted mermaids for their tears, Mori protested, deeming it cruel. He announced his intention to find and protect these mythical creatures. However, the men dismissed his declaration, treating it as a jest and asserting that mermaids were no different from fish.

Upset and determined, Mori absconded, stealing a boat and setting sail in search of the elusive cove. He did eventually find the mermaids, but they proved to be far from the innocent beings he had imagined. They sank his ship, nearly drowned him, and brought him before their queen.

The mermaid queen regarded him with skepticism and imprisoned him in a cell. For several years, Mori lived in confinement, earning the trust of the merfolk and honing his skills. A new queen eventually ascended the throne and offered him his freedom from the cell. However, she warned him that leaving the cove would mean certain death. Mori now stands as the guardian of the cove, though it remains unclear whether he safeguards the merfolk from sailors or the sailors from the merfolk.
